The voters in The United States are making a big mistake and they have been repeating it for a very long time. What mistake you ask – They voted for political parties when they should have voted for Americans.
This is a long standing mistake dating back at least to the mid 1800’s. As I wrote in my book, A Broken Sausage Grinder; Is Our Government Fundamentally Flawed?, it was the character of politics prior to that time for the political party to form around the candidate, but in the mid 1800’s it changed to the Political Parties promoting a candidate from within their ranks. We have been on that proverbial “slippery slope” ever since as the ideologies were defined and redefined to become more and more rigid and uncompromising.
Today it is the Republicans and the Democrats battling for your political contributions (their livelihood) in an effort to control the future of Our United States of America. That’s right, these United States of America belong to us and not to the political parties. The Government of these United States of America belongs to us and not to the political parties. The extreme ideologies would not be a problem if the elected officials were not afraid of competition from well-funded organizational adversary (their own political party). In the absence of that fear the conservatives and progressives could cross the aisle and vote for what is right for America rather than cower within the ranks of an over-powering and fear-mongering political party.
Yup, the voters are making a mistake when they support and follow a particular party or any other organizational grouping with a special interest. Organizations and corporations are not constituents and should not be allowed to highjack our elections.
