I just finished my hour-long conversation with the treadmill and am a bit sweaty, but this can’t wait. While I was on the treadmill I was watching CNN and the unfolding conversation about the changes being taken to ease relations with Cuba.
Several talking heads were interviewed while I was watching and some disagreed as others agreed with the changes our President is taking, but there was one who stood out – Senator Marco Rubio. Senator Rubio disagrees with President Obama on everything accept the freedom of Mr. Allen Gross from his cell in a Cuban prison. Senator Rubio spoke, at length, about his disagreement and as he was speaking I believe he went over the edge of democratic values and decorum. Democracy is all about being able to disagree with others while searching for a compromise that a majority can support and our Republican-democracy is no different. Indeed, one of our fundamental freedoms is the freedom to disagree.
During his comments though, Senator Rubio when beyond disagreement and became disrespectful of our President and I cannot let that conduct stand without comment. Today, during his remarks on CNN about his disagreement with the actions President Obama is authorizing between the United States and Cuba, Senator Rubio’s conduct became Un-Democratic and Un-American! He should be strongly rebuked by his colleagues, his constituents, and the American people in general because his conduct brought the stain of dishonor to himself and the Office of Senator of the United States of America.
