United States v. Covid-19

Each and every day it seems that we face new and bigger numbers relating to the Coronavirus Pandemic.  Total infections, new daily infections, total hospitalizations, new daily hospitalizations, total deaths, and new daily deaths all have increased to levels that most of us find hard to empathize with.  We look around and we see our fellow Americans going about their daily lives.  Admittedly, we see fewer of them than we used to see at this time last year, but we still see them out and about.  How are so many of them out and about and yet we are told that so many of our fellow Americans are personally battling the Covid-19?  They are fighting at home and they are fighting in hospitals all over our Nation.  They are fighting a fight that is so deadly that visitors are not allowed.  It is easy to wonder if all these numbers are real and yet we must trust the numbers because there is no other way to explain all the temporary morgue trailers outside the hospitals and all the funerals and all those fellow Americans who are struggling to deal with the loss of their loved ones.  Fathers and Mothers, Sisters and Brothers, Aunts and Uncles, Grandmothers and Grandfathers are all missing from our daily lives because of Covid-19.  We have holes in our hearts that feel bigger than the Grand Canyon.

Now we hear about the availability of vaccines, two of them, that will soon be injected into arms all over America.  Of course, “soon” translates to months and we must not meet the Covid-19 before we meet that vaccination shot.  We must wash our hands often, we must stay a safe distance away from people we love and want to hug tightly and, above all, we must wear our face mask.  If we don’t do these things we could very well meet Covid-19 before we meet that vaccination shot.

But I have a question.  All of this mayhem has been allowed to spread around America because many of our elected officials didn’t do the jobs we elected them to do.  We might call it incompetence or negligence, but they were not doing their jobs.  We may have some names of some of these poor performers, but we know that we don’t have names for all of them.  So, how can all this death and destruction have happened in this great Nation and we hear virtually nothing about arrests?  How can we call ourselves a “law and order” Nation when no charges have been filed against anyone for the obvious crimes against the United States of America?  Over 16 million infections and nobody did anything wrong?  Over 300,000 deaths and nobody did anything wrong?

We are tired of all the loss and we want to move on, but we must not close the book on this sad chapter of our lives without assessing who is responsible and holding them to account for their actions.  They must be found and punished as a deterrent to all of our future elected officials – if you want to hold the office, you better do it with integrity.
