Systemic Racism

Over roughly the last week, we have been learning about a new variant, Omicron, of the Covid-19 first discovered in South Africa.  Almost immediately the United States announced the imposition of travel restrictions on people traveling from South Africa and several other Southern African countries.  Within a day or two we heard that the new variant had also been detected in the United Kingdom, but no travel restrictions were imposed with the UK.  This morning I hear reports that two cases of the Omicron variant were discovered in Netherlands and somehow it has been determined that they were in the Netherlands before it was discovered in South Africa.

I am amazed and disappointed that our media is overlooking these events and the unavoidable conclusion that we are seeing systemic racism in real time.  I am confident that all the principles will vehemently deny the racism, but I am also confident that their denial tells us how systemic racism has survived for so long.
