Guns vs. Children

The shock of so many mass shooting incidents recently has the talking heads all a twitter.  On the left we hear all the invectives to justify new regulations designed to reduce the inventory of guns in the hands of citizens at large.  On the right we hear the invectives regarding the 2nd Amendment to our United States Constitution.  I do not hear the middle speaking and I do not understand their silence.  They have children.  They have guns.  Why are they silent?  Could it be that they recognize the futility of the arguments from the right and left?  Well, I’m in the middle.  I have a semi-automatic rifle and it is stored safely away from the ammunition with a trigger lock.  I also have children, and grandchildren, and great grandchildren and I would do anything to keep them safe.  So here is my question from the middle:

Does anyone really believe that our founding fathers wrote the 2nd Amendment so that their children could be slaughtered in their classrooms? If not, get involved and make a difference.
