Wouldn’t it be nice to do what we want whenever we want? No regard for the cost. Don’t worry about the damage caused. If someone else is hurt – well they shouldn’t have gotten in the way. It would be like we were all alone and totally free.
Snap out of it! We are not alone and, like it or not, our freedoms are not unlimited. Our freedoms exist as long as we have some rules and we follow them. In fact, the whole reason for rules is to avoid infringing on the rights of someone else. There has never been a world power without a government and our republican-democracy is one of the longest lasting democratic governments on earth.
Think about it – the stability of our government is anchored in our Constitution and all the laws that have been derived from it. And, we shouldn’t forget that those laws contain a process for making new laws and a process for changing old laws.
We should also remember that the good order and security we all want as part of our daily lives is dependent on the truth. Any time we try to take action based on a partial truth, a misrepresentation, or an outright lie, we have always regretted that action. So the truth is essential to the making and enforcement of good laws in our society.
When it comes to our government, the result of not following the design of our Constitution will certainly be anarchy and chaos. Right now our government is being held hostage by the ideologues on both sides of the isle. Their unwillingness to compromise has given us years of stalemate and lost opportunity to improve our economic situation, to put our people back to work, to reduce our Federal budget deficits, or to pay down our National debt.
Our elected officials are conducting our governmental processes in a way that is not what our founding fathers had in mind when they wrote our Constitution. Our founding fathers knew that factions and ideology could be a problem, but they thought that the Citizens or the United States could use our election process to keep these interests in check. We the People have been neglecting our responsibility and We the People need to bring this conduct to a halt.
