The election is over and the lame duck session is in full swing and we are hearing from the President and from the Speaker of the House as they restate (very carefully) the same positions they have been holding for months. It’s like we are listening to a record with a scratch and the music just keeps repeating. There is no doubt what the President will sign and what the President will veto so why are we still listening to the same scratched record?
It is time for the Legislative Branch to listen to the music our fore fathers wrote and start dancing. The “fiscal cliff” is a monetary issue so the responsibility starts with the House of Representatives. The Speaker needs to stop hiding behind the legislative rule book, get the debate started and let the representatives dance to the music. They need to do what they are paid to do and that is pass some legislation and send it to the Senate.
When the Senate gets the legislation from the House of Representatives, it will be their turn to dance to the music. Our Senators should stop talking about filibuster, put their heads together and pass a version of the legislation so that the joint committee can start ironing out the wrinkles. This is the process our fore fathers labored to design. It is not a new process. This isn’t rocket science. There is no reason for continued posturing. Listen to the music and just do the dance.
