It is June 24th, 2022. Mark that date in your memory because it is the day when conservatives everywhere told us that what their religious beliefs tell them is more important than anything the rest of us might think. They don’t care what your religious beliefs are because their beliefs are more important than yours.
The Roe vs. Wade decision is almost fifty years old, and the conservative Supreme Court Justices have decided that the foundation of that decision was never really in our United States Constitution. But wait! Even if we accept that a women’s right to choose was never in our Constitution, it was also never prohibited by our Constitution. The question we should be addressing is when does life begin?
Conservatives have avoided this question like the plague for years and now their actions have moved the question into the bright light of center stage.
I am distressed by the divisions we have in our political and social daily lives around the country. Our patience with each other has been drawn thin to the point of breaking. We are angry about the vast number of things we face daily, and we are frustrated by our inability to find solutions for those problems. This Supreme Court Opinion is not going to bring calm to our chaos. Instead, this Supreme Court Opinion will add more turmoil to that chaos.
As citizens of the United States and as citizens of the state where we live, we are the constituents that our elected representatives are supposed to be listening to. It has been a long time since our voices were really being heard by our government. Now, every one of us must start educating ourselves to the choices we will make in future elections. The biggest mistake we could make at this point would be not voting at all.
